The average monthly pay for employees in Taiwan reached NT$56,434 in the first quarter of the year, according to statistics released by the Cabinet-level Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS). It is the highest amount ever recorded in this period.

Food and health officials are trying to stop a health scare affecting popular sports drinks and fruit juice beverages. They found an illegal, cancer-causing additive in an agent used to improve the appearance of the drinks, and then traced the agent back to an upstream supplier. The beverages include Young Energy Source, Taiwan Yes and Sunkist lemon juice.

Now in his newest scam, this 19-year-old pretended to be the son of a major business figure and successfully applied and used the extremely exclusive American Express Centurion Card, known as a black card.

The Taipei City Government is moving ahead with plans to relocate more than 500 food stalls in the Shilin Night Market to a renovated building in November despite protests from some vendors and residents.
